For the fourth year in a row, Nissan has been awarded the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award. The brand received this impressive recognition due to its continuous dedication to reducing greenhouse gasses and energy management improvement. Efforts that reflect this dedication include the use of more energy efficient LED lighting, repairs on compressed air leaks and the creation of a new environmentally safe paint process that has created a 30% reduction in energy use.
Additionally, the Nissan Vehicle Assembly Plant in Smyrna, Tennessee was awarded its ninth ENERGY STAR Certification. These two recognitions from ENERGY STAR have helped to reinforce Nissan Green Program’s goal to reduce the company’s carbon footprint by 20% by the year 2016.
“Our commitment to the environment doesn’t stop with changes to our own operations, but we also go out in the community to help others identify ways to save energy,” said John Martin, senior vice president, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management and Purchasing. “We work with schools in middle Tennessee and central Mississippi to help them reach their energy savings goals. Since this initiative began in 2012, we’ve helped about 30 schools make the esteemed ENERGY STAR certification list.”
