2016 Nissan LEAF Gets Four-Stars From NHTSA
While everyone is already excited for the new 2016 Nissan LEAF, we’re going to keep adding more reasons for you to get one of these electric cars. The latest reason to consider the LEAF is that it has earned a four-star (out of five) safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Standard safety equipment on the 2016 LEAF includes six airbags, stability control, antilock brakes, and traction control. These features and more lead the LEAF to earn four stars in the front, side and rollover crash tests. All of which are critical to the safety of your and your passengers in the event of an accident.

At this year’s Bathurst 1000, the Nissan brand will pay tribute to its first-ever Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC) as this year marks the 25th anniversary of that legendary win. The brand will be paying tribute by designing the #23 NISMO Nissan Altima V8, driven by Michael Caruso and Dean Fiore, in the same colors that adorned the 1990 Nissan Skyline HR31 that was driven to victory by Jim Richards back in 1990.
Recently, Caruso sat down with Richards to discuss his memories of that historic win and how far the Nissan racing team has come in the past 25 years. Richards still has many fond memories of that time and that particular Skyline, so much so that he actually bought the vehicle to include in his personal collection.
“Nissan is happy to celebrate 25 years since our first Australian Touring Car Championship title at this year’s Bathurst 1000 by reviving another one of our famous motorsport paint schemes,” said Nissan Motor Co. (Australia) Managing Director and CEO Richard Emery. “We were really pleased with the reaction to the Bluebird ‘retro’ livery that we campaigned at last year’s Bathurst 1000 and we are confident that the fans will be just as excited to see the Skyline colors return to Mount Panorama this year. Jim Richards’ 1990 ATCC title was the start of a dominant era for Nissan in Australian motorsport. It’s fitting that 25 years later we salute Jim. He not only won Nissan our first ATCC crown, he is truly a legend of Australian motorsport. It’s fantastic to see the affection that Jim still holds for the Skyline, so much so that he has bought the car and is racing it again. The GT-R R32 gets a lot of attention, even to this day, but the achievements of the Skyline HR31 should not be forgotten.”

2016 Altima RS Packs A Powerful Punch
The sport variant category of the mid-size sedan segment has been steadily on the rise, and now, Nissan has unveiled their very own entry into this category, the 2016 Nissan Altima RS. This all-new model was based on the Altima S, but its design, features, and powertrain were given a powerful upgrade taking this already sporty sedan up a notch to firmly place it into the sport variant family.
“Anyone can dress up a sedan with custom wheels and a body kit, but that’s not in keeping with Nissan’s longstanding performance heritage,” said Pierre Loing, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. “Altima SR features a 12.5 percent increase in cornering performance, and we’re making SR available with our refined 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine and our higher-powered 3.5-liter V6. It’s like having your espresso shot in a choice of Grande or Venti®.”
There are two available engine options for the 2016 Altima RS. The first option is a 2.5L DOHC Inline 4-Cylinder engine that generates 180 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque and the second option is a 3.5L DOHC V6 engine that generates 270 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque. An Xtronic 7-step “manumatic” transmission with specially tuned Gen 3 D-step logic comes standard on this model.
Other upgrades seen on this model include:
- 8-way power driver’s seat, 2-way driver’s power lumbar support
- Dunlop 235/45R18 tires
- Black interior with unique blue-trimmed interior stitching
- Paddle Shifters
- 18×7.5″ aluminum-alloy Sport design machined-finish wheels
- Rear decklid spoiler
- SR-tuned suspension with 22.4 mm front stabilizer bar, 26.5 mm rear stabilizer bar, revised damper tuning
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift lever
- Active Understeer Control
- Smoked headlight housings, signature Daytime Running lights, fog lights, optional LED headlights
Nissan’s Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant Celebrates Production Of Three Millionth Vehicle
Recently, the Nissan Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant in Canton, Mississippi celebrated an impressive production milestone when the three millionth Nissan rolled off the assembly line. The historic three millionth model was a Magnetic Black Murano, which was presented to Arnel Bolden, Mayor of the City of Canton, for use by the city. This generous act is part of the over $11 million in charitable donations that this assembly plant has provided to a variety of organizations within the city of Canton.
“It is fitting that our 3-millionth vehicle is a Nissan Murano. Since its launch last year, the Murano has continued to win accolades and grow sales. The vehicle’s quality and craftsmanship is a testament to the abilities and commitment of Nissan Canton employees,” said Steve Marsh, vice president, Manufacturing, Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant, Nissan North America, Inc. “The Nissan leadership team appreciates the Canton team’s efforts to build Murano and the other six models that roll off the plant’s vehicle assembly line each day.”
Since this plant first opened back in 2003 it has grown from the regional facility that it started as to become a global facility that assembles Nissan models such as the Altima, Armada, NV Cargo Van, NV Passenger Van, Murano, Titan King Cab and Crew Cab, and the Frontier King Cab and Crew Cab. In the past 12 years, the brand has invested $32.9 billion into this facility that employs over 6,000 team members.
New Battery For Nissan LEAF Gives Longer Range
Late last week, Nissan debuted the 2016 all-electric LEAF, a vehicle that has the ability to achieve best in class range of 107 miles thanks to an available 30 kWh battery. This is a 27% increase over the previous battery that maxed out at 24 kWh.
“The new battery is just one of several enhancements for the 2016 LEAF,” said Speaker. “We’re also bringing audio and connectivity upgrades by adding NissanConnect with Mobile Apps with 5.0-inch color display as standard features for LEAF S models, and for SV and SL grades we are offering NissanConnect with Navigation and Mobile Apps–featuring a 7.0-inch color display with multi-touch control and Nissan Voice Recognition as standard features.”
The SV and SL models will have this enhanced battery as a standard feature. All LEAF models come equipped with an 80kW AC Motor, the NissanConnect System, Bluetooth®, and optional Navigation.

The Nissan Heisman House Is Back!
The Nissan “Heisman House” is back for another season of college football! This humorous series rounds up many Heisman trophy winners and has them “live” under one roof. The videos will feature 15 athletes and will air from September 3rd until the end of the college football season.
In one video, newcomer Marcus Mariota discovers that the house is haunted by the ghost of the first Heisman winner, Jay Berwanger, who is not a fan of people who disrespect his alma mater. In another, Eddie George and Troy Smith, both from Ohio State, get a lesson in art appreciation from Michigan’s Charles Woodson. Check out both videos below!

Chapter eight of the Nissan TITAN Truckumentary has been released, and this new part is called “The Sounds of Silence”. For this newest segment, the brand took a look at the process of reducing the amount of outside noise that is heard from the interior cabin. Over the years, the auto industry has begun to put more and more emphasis on offering drivers a quieter driving experience with less of the noise intrusions that have been known to be a common part of any drive.
Through chapter 8, Nissan show the various amounts of testing that was performed on this new model in order to ensure that its NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) were all at an optimum level so that their customers could enjoy the ride experience even more.
“People use the truck to go camping on the weekend, to go to dinner with their families, and they use it as their work vehicle. So it’s important for the truck to be functional, but just as important to be able to take phone calls and be able to work and live in the truck. Quietness is a key selling point for a lot of people for full-sized trucks now” said John DeYoung, Senior Manager of Nissan’s Noise and Vibration Test Group.

Nissan Division Released August Sales
Nissan Division U.S. sales for August were recently announced. Overall, the brand’s total sales for the month reached 122,716 units. Their year-to-date sales increased by 3.6 percent over the sales from January through August of last year and came to a total of 915,358 units.

- Sales of the Versa increased by 1.7 percent with 14,875 units
- Sales of the Sentra reached 15,662 units
- Sales of the Altima reached 32,327 units
- Sales of the Maxima reached 4,250 units
- Sales of the Juke reached 2,360 units
- Sales of the Frontier reached 3,654 units
- Sales of the Titan increased by 3 percent with 1,268 units
- Sales of the Pathfinder reached 7,054 units
- Sales of the Rogue increased by 29.2 percent with 27,665 units
- Sales of the Murano increased by 3.7 percent with 5,800 units
- Sales of the Xterra reached 1,132 units
- Sales of the NV200 increased by 30.9 percent with 1,601 units
