“Checking tire pressure for just a few minutes each month can help protect your family, improve vehicle performance and lengthen the life of tires,” said Sarah Cardinali, senior manager, Product Safety, Nissan North America. “Our innovative Easy-Fill Tire Alert system helps drivers fill their tires to their recommended inflation rating with ease.”

Did you know that a tire that is 25 percent below its recommended pressure is almost three times more likely to be involved in a tire-related crash than a properly inflated tire? Well, according to the NHTSA that is the unfortunate truth. The good news is that tire care is relatively easy and something you can do at home. Below are some tips and tricks from Nissan on how to properly maintain your tires this summer.

  • Inspect – Take a good look at your tires, especially before a long trip, to look for damage, excessive or uneven wear, or under inflation. If while driving, you hit a particularly intense obstruction make sure to check them once you get to your destination for damage.
  • Maintain – Extend the life of your car’s tires by getting them balanced and rotated on a regular basis.
  • Know the Pressure – Know the suggested pressure for the tires and check each tire regularly for optimal performance and mileage. Also, know that pressure can change with temperature so check it after a significant change in temperature.
  • Be Gentle – Tires get a lot of abuse on a day to day basis. Don’t make it harder for them by overloading the weight in your vehicle or by deliberately driving through obstacles like potholes or curbs.
