Nissan Europe Introduces Glow-In-The-Dark LEAF
The first-ever Nissan LEAF with a glow-in-the-dark exterior paint color was recently unveiled by Nissan in Europe. Not only is this the first LEAF to have this paint color, it is the first vehicle ever, making this a manufacturing first for Nissan and automakers in general. In essence, this specially applied coating is actually similar to solar panels in the way that it world. The coating absorbs solar energy from the sun during the day which is then converted into energy at night allowing it to glow for around eight to ten hours.
“The Nissan LEAF is a shining beacon of sustainability and the future of motoring,” said Nissan Motor GB Limited EV manager Paul O’Neill. “Not only is it saving our customers money in running costs, but it we are now seeing how it is helping people become more environmentally sensitive by reducing their carbon footprint.”
There are glow-in-the-dark paint colors and are currently available on the market, but this one is unique due to its solar absorbing ability and the fact that it is made up organic materials such as Strontium Aluminate. This paint would also last up to 25 years before a new coating would need to be applied.
