“Nissan sponsors many educational programs to help children and youth learn and grow,” said Rebecca Vest, Nissan vice president of Corporate Development and Social Responsibility. “There is no better way to nurture opportunity in the communities where we live and work than to promote literacy and a desire to learn among children from an early age. We are proud to partner with Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation and Tennessee’s Imagination Library.”

The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation (GBBF) was on the receiving end of a monetary gift totaling $100,000 from Nissan yesterday. Since 2005, Nissan has donated $1.1 million to GBBF in an effort to encourage early childhood literacy in Middle Tennessee. The foundation specializes in providing age-appropriate books each month to preschool children who are enrolled in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library programs in four Tennessee counties where Nissan has a presence. GBBF has distributed more than 26.8 million books across the state of Tennessee.

“We know that early learning and reading skills are absolutely critical for a child’s success in life,” said Theresa Carl, president of GBBF. “Thanks to Nissan’s generosity and commitment, more than 4 million books have been delivered in Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford and Franklin counties since 2004. Our continued partnership with Nissan through the years has made a significant impact on enrollment growth and on the lives of the thousands of children served by this program.”

If you’re a Nissan LEAF® driver, you know how great it is and that “range anxiety” is nothing to worry about. But for drivers who don’t drive the popular electric vehicle or are on the fence about buying one, range anxiety is a real fear. We’re here to tell you it needn’t be!

So what is range anxiety? Simply put it’s the anxiety or fear one experiences when thinking about how far an electric vehicle can get you on a charge. A new study from MIT shows that the electric cars that are currently available can reliably “replace 87 percent of the personal vehicles on the road and still get us where we need to go (and back again).” And it doesn’t stop there. With the ever-improving battery technology that percentage is expected to increase to 98 percent by 2020.

Not only would replacing 87 percent of cars on the road have an enormously beneficial impact on the environment, it would reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, and give the vehicle industry an incentive to put more money into cleaner cars and technologies.

“It’s taking the approach of empowering people with information, which often today they don’t have,” Jessika Trancik of MIT says. “These changes can happen from the ground. And I think the area of personal transportation is just so exciting for that reason, because private citizens can really make a difference today.”

The study also looks specifically at the Nissan LEAF® and points out that for an affordable price you can get an average of 74 miles per charge. That’s plenty of power to get you to Denver. Stop by Tynan’s Nissan of Fort Collins today for your test drive and a crash course in getting over your range anxiety!

When you are just one person it’s hard to imagine that you alone can make a difference in the world. But for little Henry, saving the world is both an individual and group act. Last spring, Henry watched a video in school about the earth and the effects of pollution. He became so upset as a result that he began crying when his mother picked him up from school. While Henry was letting loose his grievances and feelings on the issue his mother recorded him and uploaded the video to social media for friends and family to watch. The video soon went viral and Henry became a poster child for environmental awareness.

Since then, Henry has written a book titled “Enjoy the Planet, Don’t Wreck It.” and is a sort of neighborhood watch patrol for people who litter and pollute his hometown of Mount Vernon, Washington. Nissan also took notice of Henry’s efforts and decided to show him that he’s not alone in his efforts. This month Nissan presented Henry and his family with a Nissan LEAF adorned with Henry’s very own environmental-related drawings. Watch the video above for Henry’s reaction and the video below to see where it all began.
