Auto Industry Fights Global Warming
In recent years, it’s become apparent that “living green” is favorable to a healthy future for us and our families. We also now understand that vehicles are one of the main adversaries of attempting to do so. However, the automotive industry as a whole has been putting in more of an effort than most realize. For example:
- Since 2007 the average fuel economy has gone up from 20.1 to 25.3 MPG
- SUVs are getting smaller, resulting better MPG and less greenhouse gases

If you’ve ever driven a 2016 Nissan LEAF®, you probably already know it is the life of the party. Now, the LEAF is taking that compliment literally, by supplying power to an entire powerless block party. Nissan demonstrated the “Vehicle to Home” capability of the LEAF at Kensington Presents, a donation-based outdoor music and food festival.
The Nissan LEAF® was able to power this event through the DC Quickcharge Port, which takes the 360 volt lithium ion battery voltage and converts it to 100 volts of AC power through the internal inverter. This technology could eventually be used to power homes, or even an entire building using a fleet of Nissan LEAFs.

Nissan to Invest in U.S. Operations
In the past few years, Nissan has seen its customer base in the United States continue to grow as they release stylish, innovative, and affordable vehicles. This is especially evident after their record-breaking sales year in 2015, selling 1,484,918 vehicles last year. Due to this growing success, Nissan has made a decision to invest even further in their U.S. operations, including ramping up production of their best-selling vehicles such as the Altima, Sentra, Pathfinder, Maxima, Rogue, Murano, LEAF, Versa, and the next-generation of the TITAN.
There are over 22,000 Nissan employees across the United States, working everywhere from Nissan North America Corporate Headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee to Nissan Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant in Canton, Mississippi and totaling a payroll of $1.1 billion. Many people are not aware of this, but almost 80 percent of Nissan vehicles are built right here in the United States.

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to do a completely different job just for a day? Nissan UK is making that happen through their “dream job swap.” As Manchester United City Football Club’s official automotive sponsor, they organized this swap so that four top players on Manchester United and four top GT Academy drivers could trade places and step into one another’s shoes (or driver’s seat) for the day.
“Through our partnership with Manchester City Football Club, we’ve been able to bring to life some of the ultimate passions of our fans – football and driving,” said Nissan marketing director Chris Marsh. “Being able to make some of the country’s most celebrated talent accessible to our fans through this activity is what makes this partnership so exciting. Seeing the reaction from the players and drivers experiencing the dream job swap has been fantastic and we hope to get a similar reaction from viewers!”
This idea was inspired by a study commissioned by Nissan that concluded that almost a third of 9-13-year-olds believed racecar drivers and soccer plays had the most exciting careers. They decided to put this study to the test, and recruited brothers Fernando and Eliaquim Mangala, Bacary Sagna, and David Silva to hit the track in a 218 PS Juke NISMO RS.

The 2016 Nissan Sentra has earned a Top Safety Pick Plus Rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) when it is equipped with the optional Forward Emergency Braking technology. This technology is included with the optional Technology Package that is available on the 2016 Nissan Sentra SR and SL models.
In order to earn the Top Safety Pick Plus rating the Forward Emergency Braking system had to earn an “advanced’ or “superior” rating and the vehicle itself needed to earn a rating of “good” or better in all five of the IIHS crash tests.
“Nissan is proud to have another of our core vehicles recognized by IIHS for vehicle safety,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Strategy and Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA). “Nissan has the safety and security of Nissan vehicle owners and their passengers as its top priority, so we are glad to see our long-term investment in safety showing results in these latest IIHS tests.”
