Nissan Europe Introduces Glow-In-The-Dark LEAF

The first-ever Nissan LEAF with a glow-in-the-dark exterior paint color was recently unveiled by Nissan in Europe. Not only is this the first LEAF to have this paint color, it is the first vehicle ever, making this a manufacturing first for Nissan and automakers in general. In essence, this specially applied coating is actually similar to solar panels in the way that it world. The coating absorbs solar energy from the sun during the day which is then converted into energy at night allowing it to glow for around eight to ten hours. "The Nissan LEAF is a shining beacon of sustainability and the future of motoring," said Nissan Motor GB Limited EV manager Paul O'Neill. "Not only is it saving our customers money in running costs, but it we are now seeing how it is helping people become more environmentally sensitive by reducing their carbon footprint." There are glow-in-the-dark paint colors and are currently available on the market, but this one is unique due to its solar absorbing ability and the fact that it is made up organic materials such as Strontium Aluminate. This paint would also last up to 25 years before a new coating would need to be applied. Check out this cool new coating in the video above

Nissan Brazil Celebrated Childrens’ Creativity

Nissan Brazil recently celebrated their annual Children’s Day by inviting children of their employees to participate in a drawing contest called the "Automobile of the Future". The contest originally began in October, when the children were given 10 days to complete a drawing that represented their idea of what a Nissan might look like in the future.  The sketches were then judged by a team at Nissan Design America Rio (NDA-R) and announced after Children’s Day. The team ended up selecting three winners and then a fourth honorable mention that went to the drawing of a child who created a drawing that took the planet's sustainability into account. Additionally, in order to further showcase the talent and imagination of these children, the design team then created professional concept car sketches of the four selected drawings. "The joy of working with children is the opportunity to deal with freedom from all restrictions," said Robert Bauer, designer-in-chief of Nissan Design America Rio (NDA-R). "There are no limits when it comes to the kids' imagination. As professional designers, we can see through the imagination of a child and realize what is possible. Kids allow themselves to draw anything and change the perspective. They don't think outside the box because they don't have this 'box.' There is something refreshing in working with the kids – the joy of life and their sharp sense of recreating the world are very inspiring. In all the drawings recreated in our studio, we noticed a concern with people, the environment and its preservation. It was wonderful to share our studio with them because they are our future, and they create worlds adults could never imagine. It is an experience that brings us energy and makes us rethink our concepts." The three winners plus one honorable mention are: Karine, a five-year old daughter of a worker from Resende Industrial Complex Sophya, a 10-year old daughter of a worker from Resende Industrial Complex Gabriela, a nine-year old daughter of a worker from Resende Industrial Complex Nathália (honorable mention), a 10-year old daughter of a worker from São José dos Pinhais' Unity

Nissan Releases A New Video Featuring Self-Cleaning LEAF

Nissan recently released a new video featuring a Nissan LEAF that has been coated with a special spill-resistant paint called Ultra-Ever Dry®. This unique new paint has been designed to repel any messy substance that comes in contact with it. This newly released video us entitled "The Nissan Paint Prank" and depicts Nissan playing a prank on a few unsuspecting people by making them think that they have accidentally caused permanent paint to spill and ruin the outer coating of a white Nissan LEAF. This will be the first in a series of videos that Nissan will be releasing demonstrating the impressive capability of the new paint technology. "The LEAF is already one of the cleanest vehicles around even without this incredibly innovative paint technology; that said, we're not afraid to get our hands dirty to take this to the next level," said Pierre Loing, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. "Getting fans involved via this social media campaign is a fun, creative way to show how the LEAF can stay clean no matter how dirty the world around it may be. A marriage with the Ultra-Ever Dry® exterior coating truly puts this LEAF in a league of its own, and we're excited to see where this technology can take us." Nissan does not have any immediate plans to implement this new technology as a standard material on any of their vehicles, but they do plan to continue development testing and hopefully have it available on future models.

Nissan Kicks Concept Unveiled

At the annual São Paulo International Motor Show Nissan debuted their new Nissan Kicks Concept car.  This new concept was designed in order to portray the incredibly impressive design signature found in Nissan models while also paying homage to the people and culture of Brazil. Nissan designers stated that they chose to add distinctive pops of color and flare to this model in order to represent the vibrant culture and personality of the people from brazil.  Additionally, they were looking to create a model that would make a bold statement against the predominantly black and white models mainly seen on the roads there. "The main inspiration for this concept was the contrast that we saw in the grey tones of the urban settings in São Paulo and the bright natural colors that we saw near our studio in Rio," said Robert Bauer, Chief Designer at the Rio studio. "How to combine these two, the more grey urban tones with the bright sunset orange that we would see - this combination we thought was really uniquely Brazilian." This new concept was a collaborative effort of Nissan Design America in San Diego, Global Design Center in Japan and Nissan Design America Rio.
