Earlier this month, we told you about the massive deal between Nissan and Mitsubishi that is waiting to be approved. The deal, in which Nissan would purchase 34% equity stake in Mitsubishi for 237 billion yen, would catapult Renault-Nissan to the world’s third-largest automotive group. We’re happy to announce that the deal has finally been approved! This five-year alliance will bring multiple “synergies” or commonalities between the two brands, most importantly, common vehicle platforms and technology sharing. "The combination of Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors and Renault will create a new force in global car-making," said Ghosn. "It will be one of the world's three largest automotive groups, with the economies of scale, breakthrough technologies and manufacturing capabilities to produce vehicles to serve customer demand in every market segment and in every geographic market around the world." Nissan CEO Announces “Massive Plans” for Mitsubishi Deal
As you may have already heard earlier this year, Nissan and Mitsubishi entered into a strategic partnership together. Since then, we have heard very little details on what that means for both car brands. However, recently Renault-Nissan CEO, Carlos Ghosn, confirmed that they were going to announce a “massive’ business plan very shortly. "This is not a deal where we say, 'OK, we made the deal, now let's think what we can do together," told reporters . "No. The day we announce the deal, we're going to tell you exactly what we're going to do together. And it's massive. It's massive between Mitsubishi and Nissan. And also, it may be very significant between Renault and Mitsubishi." Very little details have been released so far, but we do know that the plan will include details regarding how Nissan and Mitsubishi will grow the U.S. market and expand the electric vehicle technology. "We will have to dig more in the U.S.," Ghosn said. "But when you talk about purchasing, engineering, platforms, engines, plug-in hybrids -- it's massive." As of right now, Nissan and Mitsubishi are still waiting for the deal to be approved by the government. It is expected to be approved by the end of the year. Study Dispels Range Anxiety
If you’re a Nissan LEAF® driver, you know how great it is and that “range anxiety” is nothing to worry about. But for drivers who don’t drive the popular electric vehicle or are on the fence about buying one, range anxiety is a real fear. We’re here to tell you it needn't be! So what is range anxiety? Simply put it’s the anxiety or fear one experiences when thinking about how far an electric vehicle can get you on a charge. A new study from MIT shows that the electric cars that are currently available can reliably “replace 87 percent of the personal vehicles on the road and still get us where we need to go (and back again).” And it doesn’t stop there. With the ever-improving battery technology that percentage is expected to increase to 98 percent by 2020. Not only would replacing 87 percent of cars on the road have an enormously beneficial impact on the environment, it would reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, and give the vehicle industry an incentive to put more money into cleaner cars and technologies. “It’s taking the approach of empowering people with information, which often today they don’t have,” Jessika Trancik of MIT says. “These changes can happen from the ground. And I think the area of personal transportation is just so exciting for that reason, because private citizens can really make a difference today.” The study also looks specifically at the Nissan LEAF® and points out that for an affordable price you can get an average of 74 miles per charge. That’s plenty of power to get you to Denver. Stop by Tynan’s Nissan of Fort Collins today for your test drive and a crash course in getting over your range anxiety! Caruso, Catherine. Meet Henry, the “Emotional Environmentalist”
When you are just one person it’s hard to imagine that you alone can make a difference in the world. But for little Henry, saving the world is both an individual and group act. Last spring, Henry watched a video in school about the earth and the effects of pollution. He became so upset as a result that he began crying when his mother picked him up from school. While Henry was letting loose his grievances and feelings on the issue his mother recorded him and uploaded the video to social media for friends and family to watch. The video soon went viral and Henry became a poster child for environmental awareness. Since then, Henry has written a book titled "Enjoy the Planet, Don't Wreck It.” and is a sort of neighborhood watch patrol for people who litter and pollute his hometown of Mount Vernon, Washington. Nissan also took notice of Henry’s efforts and decided to show him that he’s not alone in his efforts. This month Nissan presented Henry and his family with a Nissan LEAF adorned with Henry’s very own environmental-related drawings. Watch the video above for Henry’s reaction and the video below to see where it all began. "Henry, the "Emotional Environmentalist"" Nissan Online Newsroom. Nissan, 26 Aug. 2016. Web. 30 Aug. 2016.
Meet the First Solid-Oxide Fuel Cell Vehicle
Nissan’s ongoing commitment to the development of zero-emission vehicles has led to the development of the first Solid Oxide Fuel-Cell (SOFC)-powered prototype. This vehicle runs on 100% bio-ethanol electric power which charges a 24kWh battery and enables a range of up to 600km. The energy-generating components of this vehicle are clean, very efficient, and produce carbon-neutral emissions. Just like the BladeGlider we talked about in the last blog, the SOFC-powered vehicle was unveiled at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where it will undergo further field tests on public roads. Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn said: “The e-Bio Fuel-Cell offers eco-friendly transportation and creates opportunities for regional energy production…all the while supporting the existing infrastructure. In the future, the e-Bio Fuel-Cell will become even more user-friendly. Ethanol-blended water is easier and safer to handle than most other fuels. Without the need to create new infrastructure, it has great potential to drive market growth.” "Nissan Unveils World's First Solid-Oxide Fuel Cell Vehicle." Nissan Online Newsroom. Nissan, 4 Aug. 2016. Web. 11 Aug. 2016.
Meet the Nissan BladeGlider
The Olympics aren’t the only exciting thing happening in Rio de Janeiro this month. Last week, Nissan unveiled two new vehicle prototypes, one of which was the Nissan BladeGlider. The unveiling took place at the Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow) as part of Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility strategy. The Nissan BladeGlider is a 100% electric sports car and will contribute to the zero-emissions future that Nissan is working towards. Features of the BladeGlider include an advanced chassis configuration with a narrow front track and wider rear track for optimum aerodynamic efficiency and handling stability, high-waisted/rear-hinged dihedral doors, an open roof that is reinforced with an integrated rollover protection structure, seamless cockpit windscreen providing panoramic views, four point safety harness for each occupant, and a two-screen central display. Unfortunately, this innovative vehicle is only a working prototype but if Nissan has their way it will be much more than that in the future. Carlos Ghosn, president and chief executive officer, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. said: "These prototypes epitomize Nissan's drive to expand its Intelligent Mobility strategy, where driving pleasure combines with environmental responsibility. Nissan believes that enthusiasts should look forward to a zero emission future and Nissan BladeGlider is a perfect demonstration of that. It's the electric vehicle for car lovers."

A New Approach For Nissan
Everyday driving is filled with obstacles and challenges. We encounter many of them frequently, like potholes and stop signs that “come out of nowhere”. But for those times when a pedestrian walks out in front of your or a vehicle in front of you comes to a stop suddenly you want to know without a doubt that your car is going to perform how you want it and when you want it to. Nissan’s new campaign shows just how capable its cars, trucks and SUVs really are. Above is the first spot in the upcoming set and features “pop-up” obstacles that the driver and the Nissan must work together to avoid. "Nissan's refreshed marketing strategy clearly showcases our brand while celebrating our safety, capability and quality," said Jeremy Tucker, Vice President, Marketing Communications & Media, Nissan North America. "By putting Nissan's advanced driver assistance systems at center stage – and telling their story in a compelling way – we are educating today's drivers on technology available in the Nissan lineup. The message pairs Nissan's brand-DNA of driving excitement with relevant product information about how our vehicles are engineered to help handle whatever the road may bring."
