Nissan has just been named by Plug In America as the exclusive automotive sponsor of National Drive Electric Week until 2017. With its fifth anniversary coming this September, the largest yearly organized event featuring plug-in vehicles will involve a variety of activities including test-drives in various U.S. cities and more. "Nissan is a driving force in the plug-in vehicle industry, with the top-selling electric vehicle, Nissan LEAF, and with investments in charging infrastructure and consumer education," said Tom Saxton, Plug In America's Program Manager for National Drive Electric Week. "Nissan's support of National Drive Electric Week helps Plug In America with our efforts to rapidly increase adoption of EVs of all kinds in cities across the U.S." National Drive Electric Week is centered on the mindset that a drive in a clean plug-in car will trump everything and convince gasoline powered drivers to make the switch. The event started in 2011 and has grown from 29 cities to over 150 cities in both the U.S and other countries. The Sierra Group, Plug In America, and the Electric Auto Association work together to put on events that feature different electric and hybrid cars from a variety of automakers. Nissan and the company’s fully electric LEAF have exclusively sponsored the event for the past two years. The LEAF tops electric car sales throughout the world with over 178,000 sales throughout the globe and 80,000 in the United States. The LEAF can seat up to five people and can drive an EPA-estimated* 84 miles on a full charge with MPGe ratings up to 126 city, 101 highway, and 114 combined. *2015 EPA Fuel Economy Estimate 126 city, 101 highway. Based on EPA formula of 33.7 kW/hour equal to one gallon of gasoline energy, EPA rated the LEAF® equivalent to 126 MPG measured as gasoline fuel efficiency in city driving, and 101 MPG in highway driving. Actual mileage may vary with driving conditions — use for comparison only. 2015 EPA range of 84 miles.

GT-R LM NISMO Featured on Jay Leno’s Garage
Nissan is gearing up for the infamous 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, scheduled to take place this weekend at the Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans, France. In preparation for this extremely competitive and challenging race, the brand put a great deal of time into the redesign of the new GT-R LM NISMO that was built specifically for this race. Recently, Jay Leno featured this redesigned custom car on his YouTube series “Jay Leno’s Garage” along with the model’s chief engineer Zack Eakin. In the video, we hear Eakin and Leno discussing what makes this model unique, most specifically the fact that this was designed as a Front Wheel Drive model which is very different from the typical rear Wheel or All Wheel Drive seen on most race cars in that category. Eakin then takes Leno on a tour of the model and explains the modifications that the team made when designing and building this model in order to ensure that it truly stood out against the competition. Later in the video we see Nissan GT Academy winner Jann Mardenborough take this unique model out for a drive on a racetrack in Bowling Green, Kentucky as he tests out this model in preparation for the big race. Jann first explains what it feels like to be positioned inside this model and explains a bit more about how the GT-R LM NISMO works. He then heads out onto the track and offers viewers a look at the impressive power and handling that this model has to offer. See the full video above to learn more about the GT-R LM NISMO and look out for Jann and this model at Le Mans this weekend!

"It's great to get out of the office and spend some time in the community working with our dealers, working with the Heisman Trust, working with our people, working with a family who really deserves to have a home. And it makes it all worth it when you see Nissan make this kind of impact on a community and do that in a way that is just genuine. The smiles on people's faces here, the hard work, the sweat – all that comes together, and we know that we are making an impact in the community.
